Bean at Peace - Staying Sane

I often find, being a mountain girl at heart, in this big semi-pavement-filled city, that I can get a little claustrophobic. So, it helps that there are so many beautiful ways to get outdoors into the urban-jungle's of San Francisco. I'm not just talking about Golden Gate Park, The Presidio or the lovely beaches surrounding us on three sides. My favorite new zen-enhancing experience is stair-hiking. There are hundreds of stairs in this city, maybe even thousands (I haven't counted). It makes sense, since there are so many dang hills and we are a city filled with foot traffic.

Lately, I've been taking the stairs up from my neighborhood at Elizabeth st. and Church st. and heading up to the top of Twin Peaks boulevard. It's a shin-burner but allows for fantastic om-tastic views of the entire city. And, once you're up there, it's all downhill to get home!

My Route:
Take Elizabeth street headed west until you hit Market St. (it's hard to miss)
Cross over Grand View Ave. and take the winding walkway up and over Market st.
Head up the first set of stairs and take a slight right and then the first left onto Hopkins Ave.
Take a left on Burnett street and find the second staircase on your right, head up it.
From here, keep taking the closest stairwell until you get to the last one (there are about 5-6).
Take the road up to the right until you get to the trail head at the base of the peaks.
Get to the top of whichever peak you chose and take a moment to quiet your mind.
Breathe.
